Final Double Page Spreads.

These are my final double page spreads. They continue to use a colour pallet of theree, and they also use images which are fromt he same shoot as the front cover, and the contents page.

Final Contents Page.

This is my final contents page.Although different to my original ideas, I think it has turned out really well, I have contained an editors letter, a shot that is from the main story, two other images, and a live shot, each of these follow the codes and conventions of a contents page.

Final front cover.

Here is my final front cover. I took all of the images, then edited them on photoshop, and placed the cover lines, explanatory texts, footer, and title using photoshop. I have also used a three colour pallet, which connotes sophistication.

Final Decisions.

These are the original planned outfits using Aaron Groom as the model, here are also some test shots.

I think that using a female model will enable me to make the product brighter, and appeal more to my target audience of girls aged 16-20 as I feel they will enjoy a female on the cover, as opposed to a make on the cover. I have decided to change the model as I feel that the a female on the cover may make the cover stand out, as opposed to these test shots which look very dull. I also am including a props list which I will use for my final product.

Double Page Spread Template

These are my two templates for the double page spread, the template above is going to be used  as an introduction to the main article, and will contain only a picture, and the title of the magazine. the template below will contain the actual article, and an image to go along with it. I have created these templates for the front cover, contents page and double page spread as a guideline for how I shall set out my entire magazine.

Experimenting with the Front Cover

The models used for these two drafts are Matt Sparrow, Naomi-Jay Craven(self), Ellie Collingwood, and  Aaron Groom. For the final piece I want the images to look brighter, and I will do this using different and brighter costumes. Although my initial idea was to have a male on the front cover, I think that I would prefer to have a single female on the front cover, as I will be able to use brighter, more flamboyant  clothing.

Double Page Spread Analysis

Contents Page Templates

Here are three templates for the contents page, after creating the first two templates, I decided that I wanted to make the contents page into two pages, rather than one. The contents page will contain images that mirror the front page, other images that will show the reader what else is contained in the magazine, two taken in a studio and one live shot. It will also contain an editors letter, and a picture of the "editor". It will also follow the common codes of a contents page by containing cover lines for the different article and explanatory text, and like most music magazines, contains a review section.

Front Cover Template

Here is my final template for the front cover. I will use a three colour pallet to connote sophistication, which will mirror the type of music which will feature in my magazine. I have used two different fonts, a barcode which contains a price and an issue number, I have also included a footer which will hold artist names that will feature in the magazine. The layout is also symmetrical, which connotes sophistication.

Font for the Title of Magazine

After looking at many different font I made a decision to take a further look at these two. The font that I have chosen for the title of the magazine is the bottom font. I decided that I wanted to aim my magazine at 16-20 year olds, who enjoy indie music, and I thought that the font that I chose it more youthful that the font above, and the other fonts that I had previously looked at. I also have been inspired by the front cover of the music magazine "notion" and decided that I would like my music magazine to contain similar music as notion music magazine.

Mood boards

I created these three mood boards to show potential audience, so I could then help decide the type of music magazine I am going to produce. The first mood board is heavy metal music, the second indie music and the third gangster rap music. I showed the diffenent people each mood board without telling them what it was, and asked them which one they found they were most attracted too, and then asked them the genre of music they mostly listened to. The majority of people said they were attracted to the indie music mood board, they then said that their favourite genre of music was indie music.

Codes and conventions of a magazine

Preliminary Task

Here is my preliminary task, it is of a school magazine. I used a three colour pallet, which connotes sophistication, which i thought would be good to use as it would present the school well. The models used are Rosie Pawsey (front cover) and Aaron Groom (contents page). The costume used on the front cover is school uniform, which indicates that it is a school magazine,  and for the contents page I used a smart shirt and tie to connote that students not in uniform present themselves well and therefore present the school well. I continued the three colour pallet onto the contents page.
